A ticker for the independent web

One honest line at the top of your site.

Honorable is a 5 KB script you paste once. Show your line as a ticker, a split-flap board, an LED sign, or a letter board. Change it from anywhere, get mentioned on other members’ sites, and let sponsors pay for the rest. Text only. No cookies. No tracking.

Free for one site. No card. Remove it any time by deleting one line of HTML.

That bar is real: the same script you would paste, loaded from cdn.honorable.app. Hover to pause it, and use the ◧ and color buttons on the bar to change its display, the way your visitors could.

<script async src="https://cdn.honorable.app/v1/ticker.js" data-site="YOUR_SITE_ID"></script>

Four ways to say it

One line. Your choice of machine.

Every board is text only and renders from the same tag. Pick one in the dashboard, pick your colors, and decide whether visitors may flip between them.

TickerThe classic line, scrolling at your speed.
Split-flapA departures board: every letter spins into place.
LED dotsAn LED sign, lit in your accent color.
TilesA letter board that flips across in a wave.

How it works

Paste once. Never touch it again.

  1. Paste the tag

One line of HTML, anywhere: Ghost code injection, a WordPress block, your Hugo layout, Squarespace, Carrd. It renders where it sits, or pinned to the top with data-position="top".

  2. Write your line

Your launch, your latest post, your “we’re hiring”. Edit it from your phone. It changes on your site within 30 seconds. No deploy, no plugin update.

  3. Open the exchange

Flip one switch. Your bar carries mentions of other members’ sites, and your mention scrolls on theirs. Give a mention, get a mention.

Three layers

Useful alone. Better together.

Free

Your line

A remote-controlled announcement bar for your own site, plus banner, card, and hero sections you control from the same place. Update it from a Google Sheet, Slack, or any tool that can post a line.

Free

The exchange

Every member is both publisher and advertiser, so the network is never empty. Mentions rotate every hour. Every line is read by a human before it runs anywhere.

Paid

Sponsored mentions

Advertisers buy one labeled line across the whole network. Members in the exchange earn a share. Text only. Never an image, never a script.

The Honorable code

Six promises to every site that carries the bar.

  • Text only. No images, no video, no advertiser JavaScript. Ever.
  • No tracking. No cookies, no fingerprints, no pixels. We count viewable impressions and clicks. We store nothing about your visitors, not even an IP address.
  • Read by a human. Every mention and every sponsored line is reviewed before it can appear on anyone else’s site.
  • Light. About 5 KB on the wire, loaded async, rendered in a Shadow DOM so our styles and yours never meet. Height reserved, no layout shift.
  • Labeled. Every paid line is marked “Ad” in every display, and carries rel="sponsored".
  • Yours. Pause, leave the exchange, or delete the tag any time. Nothing lingers.

Questions

The honest answers.

Will it slow my site down?

No. The loader is about 5 KB on the wire, loads async, and reserves its height before it fetches anything, so nothing on your page jumps. It makes one request for your line and one beacon when the bar is actually seen.

What do you know about my visitors?

Nothing. No cookies, no fingerprints, no IDs. We count that the bar was seen and whether a line was clicked. We check the beacon came from your domain, then discard the request. No IP addresses are stored.

What counts as an impression?

A viewable one: at least half the bar visible for one full second, once per page view. Bars that load below the fold and are never seen do not count, for you or for sponsors.

Can I choose which mentions appear on my site?

Every mention is read by a person before it can run anywhere, and you can leave the exchange with one switch. Categories and a per-site block list are next on the list.

Can I update it from somewhere other than the dashboard?

Yes. Every site has a Board API and a webhook URL, so a Google Sheet, a Slack command, Zapier, n8n, Apple Shortcuts, or a GitHub Action can set the line. Changes are live within 30 seconds.

Is it only one line?

The line is the network unit. On your own site you can also place sections you control: a banner, a card, or a hero, with an image you upload to us and text around it, at a fixed height so nothing shifts. Sections never carry other members’ mentions or ads.

Can visitors change how it looks?

If you let them. Two switches in the dashboard add small controls to the bar: one cycles the display (ticker, split-flap, LED dots, tiles), the other cycles your palettes. A visitor’s choice lasts one page view; we store nothing in their browser.

I have a strict Content-Security-Policy.

Add cdn.honorable.app to script-src and connect-src. That is the only domain the bar ever talks to. Details in the docs.

Is it accessible?

The bar is a labeled marquee region with a pause button, pauses on hover, and switches to a static, no-motion rotation for visitors who prefer reduced motion. Text contrast meets WCAG AA in every theme.

Do ad blockers hide it?

Some will, eventually. We do not fight them. A blocked bar collapses to nothing, and blocked views are never billed to sponsors.

How do I remove it?

Delete the tag, or pause the site from the dashboard. Nothing is left behind on your page or in your visitors’ browsers.
